The three-year grant program will provide resources to community-based organizations that serve certain Veterans and their families. Approximately $51,750,000 is available for suicide prevention grants to be funded under this program.
SSG Fox SPGP honors Veteran Parker Gordon Fox, who joined the Army in 2014 and was a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Known for a life of generosity and kindness to others in need, Fox died by suicide on July 21, 2020, at the age of 25.
Organizations can apply for grants worth up to $750,000 and may apply to renew awards from year to year throughout the length of the program. Grants will be awarded to organizations that provide or coordinate suicide prevention services for eligible individuals at risk of suicide, and their families.
VA published the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Section 201 of the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act (Hannon Act) on April 15, 2022. Section 201 of the Hannon Act establishes the SSG Fox SPGP. The published NOFO provides information about SSG Fox SPGP, eligibility requirements for grant applicants, the process for selecting grant awardees and the award process. The NOFO can be found on the Federal Register. The deadline to submit grant applications is June 10, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.
